Golden Smoke - The Pheasant's Eye Collection
A golden smoke bush and fushia spindle berries I encountered while foraging inspired this sumptuous wild arrangement. The leaves glowed from within with their gold, saffron, and pinks linking everything together. My favorite tagetes from my garden "Burning Embers" are included as is the glorious smokey haze of the plume poppy. I picked the roses and dahlias from a wonderful local grower’s field early one morning, not long before the first frosts arrived. I always feel a need to rush to capture the incredible beauty that is so fleeting in late autumn, my heart sings in this season. I love its edge of wildness and wanted to capture the mood of it being a celebration, a joy, and a moment in time.
This image has a particular significance for me. I entered all three of this "The Pheasant's Eye Collection" in the New Zealand Amateur Photography Awards, and had to pinch myself when all three were awarded Highly Commended!
